Many people find it uncomfortable to insert a cotton swab into their nose or throat for a corona test. Those who are prone to nosebleeds or gag reflex in particular would like to avoid invasive specimen collection whenever possible. For testing sensitive groups of people, a spit test is therefore an option. The method is gentle for the test person and easy to handle. The HYGISUN COVID-19 antigen rapid test is approved by the BfArM as a lay test.

Its use is particularly conceivable in areas where sensitive groups of people are to be tested. These include daycare centers, schools, and facilities for the elderly and disabled. However, a lay test can also contribute to targeted infection control in the tourism industry, the hotel industry, the hospitality industry, and the cultural sector. Use in industry and commerce is also possible.

How the HYGISUN COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test Works

Using the spit test, SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid antigens can be detected in human saliva samples. The test reacts as soon as the viral load is high – even if the affected person does not yet show any symptoms of infection. Thus, the spit test enables even laypersons to detect corona disease in time and to take the necessary measures for their own protection and for the protection of third parties. Regular performance of certified lay tests helps to break chains of infection and contain the pandemic. The rapid test has a sensitivity of 95.27%, specificity of 100%, and accuracy of 96.14%.

Application of the lay test

Subjects should not eat or drink for approximately 30 minutes before testing. Chewing gum and tobacco use must also be refrained from. Failure to do so may result in a false or invalid test result. Basic hygiene measures should also be observed when testing. Washing and disinfecting hands and cleaning the pad are necessary. To obtain a reliable result, testing must be performed exactly as described in the instructions.

To obtain the saliva sample, test subjects must clear their throat vigorously several times. Then spit the saliva thus obtained into the test tube. It should be noted that the 2-milliliter mark must be reached. Then close the tube and shake it at least 10 times. Using the enclosed disposable pipette, remove some sample liquid from the tube and drip 3 drops of it onto the test cassette. After 15 minutes, the result can be read.
